Exciting News for Chatham County

Chatham County is set to welcome a groundbreaking clean technology manufacturer, MetOx International, which will create 333 high-paying jobs and invest a remarkable $193.7 million in the area. This announcement underscores the region’s growing reputation as a hub for innovation and sustainable development.

MetOx International, a leader in High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) technology, plans to establish a cutting-edge production facility in the Research Triangle region. This facility will manufacture Xeus™ HTS wire, a revolutionary product that enhances power transmission efficiency up to tenfold compared to traditional copper cables.

Driving the Clean Energy Economy

Governor Roy Cooper hailed the announcement, emphasizing the importance of technologies like HTS in building a resilient, clean energy future:

“Reducing carbon emissions will keep us safer and healthier while putting more money in the pockets of North Carolina families, and we’re excited to bring more clean tech company jobs to our state.”

HTS technology not only addresses critical power demands for industries like AI, hyperscale data centers, and aerospace but also plays a pivotal role in reducing carbon emissions.

Local Economic Impact

The jobs created by MetOx will have an average salary of $75,132, significantly higher than Chatham County’s current average wage of $48,413, bringing over $25 million in annual payroll growth to the area.

Additionally, the state’s Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG) is facilitating the project, projected to grow North Carolina’s economy by $987.8 million over 12 years. This collaboration highlights the strength of partnerships between state leaders, local governments, and private enterprises in attracting transformative investments.

Chatham County: A Magnet for Innovation

MetOx’s decision to establish its facility in Chatham County reflects the region's robust support for innovation, fueled by partnerships with academic institutions like North Carolina State University and a pro-business environment championed by local and state leaders.
